According to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum<\/mark><\/strong>, at least 200 shipwrecks lie along Lake Superior’s Shipwreck Coast, a treacherous 80-Mile<\/strong> stretch of shoreline with no safe harbor, between Munising<\/mark><\/strong> (where we camped) and Whitefish Point<\/strong><\/mark> (where we visited the Shipwreck Museum). It is known as the Graveyard of the Great Lakes. Near Whitefish Point lies the Edmund Fitzgerald<\/strong><\/mark>. Its bell was raised in 1995, restored, and placed in the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. It was replaced on the wreck, by a bell with the names of the lost sailors, as a memorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We camped near Munising, close to the west end of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore<\/strong><\/mark>, which we visited 3 of 4 days. The other day, we drove 2 hours to Whitefish Point to visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum<\/mark><\/strong> and Whitefish Point Lighthouse<\/mark><\/strong>. On our 2 hour return, we drove through Tahquamenon Falls State Park<\/strong><\/mark>, where we had lunch and visited Tahquamenon Lower Falls<\/strong><\/mark> and Upper Falls<\/strong><\/mark>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
