Lizzy Route to Columbia, Coast & home<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We got in another 3 week trip on the Columbia River<\/strong> and Pacific Coast<\/strong> near its mouth. The first stop was right on the Columbia on the Washington side, just<\/strong> east of the 80 miles of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area<\/strong>. The last 3 were revisits to some of our favorite places from our previous trip to the coast:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Maryhill State Park<\/strong>, on the Columbia River, Goldendale, WA, where we camped 2 nights with friends…1st time!<\/li>
  • Cape Disappointment State Park, WA<\/strong><\/strong>, SE corner of Washington on the north side of the mouth of the Columbia<\/li>
  • Nehalem Bay State Park,<\/strong> near Manzanita, OR<\/li>
  • Fort Stevens State Park<\/strong>, NE corner of Oregon on the south side of the mouth of the Columbia, near Astoria, OR<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Visit the Columbia Gorge<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Columbia River at Mary Hill<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    This was our first trip to the Columbia Gorge. We camped, right on the river, just<\/strong> east of the 80 mile long Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area<\/strong>. Our friends Ginny & Benny joined us for 2 days, including Easter…our first time Camping with Friends. We were in the “middle of nowhere”, but discovered lots to visit nearby:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • The astonishing<\/span><\/strong> Maryhill Art Museum<\/strong><\/li>
    • Glendale Observatory<\/strong><\/li>
    • Stonehenge Memorial<\/strong> & Klickitat County Veterans Memorial <\/li>
    • The Dalles<\/strong>, Oregon where we found:
      • The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center<\/strong> \/ Wasco County Historical Museum<\/strong> <\/li>
      • Riverfront Trail<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>
        • and a HUGE<\/em><\/strong> Google Data Center<\/strong>!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Revisit Mouth of the Columbia<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

          Benson Beach<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

          Had lots more time on the Washington side of the Columbia, this visit…lots of time to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • Visit Lewis & Clark Historic Sites<\/strong><\/li>
          • Visit Fort Columbia<\/strong><\/li>
          • Hike more more trails at Cape Disappointment: McKensie Head\/Battery 247<\/strong> and North Head Trails<\/strong> <\/li>
          • Drive up the Washington Long Beach Peninsula to hike at Leadbetter Point State Park<\/strong> <\/li>
          • Return to Astoria<\/strong>, walk the waterfront and visit The Flavel House, Oregon Film Museum, Cannery Museum<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Revisit Nehalem Bay\/Manzanita<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            Oswald West State Park<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

            We fell in love with Manzanita on our first visit a month ago, so were excited to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Visited Tillamook Creamery<\/strong> again<\/li>
            • Bought more chocolate at Manzanita Sweets<\/strong><\/li>
            • Did a new hike in Oswald West State Park<\/strong><\/li>
            • Finished the Tillamook Coast 3 Cape Scenic Tour<\/strong>, visiting
              • Cape Kiwanda<\/strong><\/li>
              • Original Pelican Brewery<\/strong>, right on the beach in Pacific City<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li>
