{"id":12089,"date":"2024-10-09T16:18:34","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T23:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=12089"},"modified":"2024-10-11T09:41:16","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T16:41:16","slug":"twin-cities-three-rivers-two-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=12089","title":{"rendered":"Twin Cities, Three Rivers, Two States"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#090d8e\"><strong>In just 2<sup>1<\/sup>\/<sub>2<\/sub> days<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Camping northwest of Minneapolis (in Maple Grove), we spent a most of our 9 days (before and after our <a href=\"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=7354\">Whirlwind Trip to the Northeast<\/a>) &#8220;just&#8221; getting organized, packing, unpacking &amp; recouping from the trip! <strong>NOT<\/strong> to mention, a better part of a day getting new brakes installed on <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#a1bcf7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Lizzy<\/mark><\/em><\/strong>! Note:  these brakes are expected to last 20-25K miles, and <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#a1bcf7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Lizzy<\/mark><\/em><\/strong> has been towed over 37K miles.  Not bad.  Helped by the use of diesel brakes.  Anyway.  Good News&#8230;there is an Airstream place but a half hour from our campground and we were able to schedule <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#a1bcf7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Lizzy<\/mark><\/em><\/strong> to get new brakes installed.  We dropped her off at 9:00 am on Monday, unhitched, and took off for a <sup>1<\/sup>\/<sub>2<\/sub> day of touring.  New brakes installed by 3:00, back and hitched up by 4:00.  <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#8f1f09\" class=\"has-inline-color\">BUT&#8230;the brakes didn&#8217;t actually work!!!<\/mark><\/strong>  It took a bit to figure it out, but apparently the (pretty new) technician who did the work, skipped the step where one actually adjusts the brakes.  So, while we stayed hitched up in the parking lot, they (3 at times) adjusted them there.  Bless his heart, Bailey will not forget that step again!  Thanks, Tyler and Blake, for helping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#090d8e\"><strong>And about those 2<sup>1<\/sup>\/<sub>2<\/sub> days of Touring <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Toured <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#046969\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>1<\/strong><\/mark> new <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#046969\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>State Capitol<\/strong><\/mark>:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#046969\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul<\/mark><\/strong> (#37), where we had an informative tour and learned that Minnesota has more Senators than any other state. background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: rgb(29, 106, 6);\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>2<\/strong><\/mark> new <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">National Park Sites<\/mark><\/strong>, <mark style=\"font-weight: bold; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: rgb(29, 106, 6);\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>1<\/strong><\/mark> Revisit:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Mississippi National River &amp; Recreation Area<\/strong><\/mark> (#51-Revisited), which links together many state, local and federally managed parks along the upper Mississippi.  We visited 2 which we hadn&#8217;t seen before, <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Historic Fort Snelling<\/strong><\/mark>, at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers in St. Paul, and the <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Coon Rapids Dam<\/strong><\/mark>, farther north, and the farthest north on the Mississippi that is navigable, as it has no locks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway<\/strong><\/mark> (#261), which protects over 200 miles of the <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">St. Croix<\/mark><\/strong> and <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Namekagon Rivers<\/mark><\/strong>! Together they form the <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">St. Croix National Scenic Riverway,<\/mark><\/strong> that glides and rushes through a forested landscape.&nbsp; We made it to the <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong> Visitor Center<\/strong><\/mark> and then drove south along the St. Croix River from there for a bit, where it forms the boundary between Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Beautiful drive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Ice Age National Scenic Trail<\/strong><\/mark> (#262), which spans 1,200 miles, traverses some of Wisconsin&#8217;s finest geologic and glacial features, and passes through the ancestral lands of 15 Tribes.  We hiked ~0.2 miles of the trail, to its Western Terminus, and visited the Ice Age Interpretive Center at Wisconsin Interstate Park.  We&#8217;ll have to do more on a longer visit to Wisconsin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-delay=\"5\" River Road Visitor Center<\/mark><\/strong> in Prescott, Wisconsin, at the confluence of the St. Croix River and the Mississippi River.
