{"id":16970,"date":"2026-04-02T08:13:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T15:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=16970"},"modified":"2026-04-06T13:43:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T20:43:17","slug":"last-rural-kentucky-camping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=16970","title":{"rendered":"Last Rural Kentucky Camping"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#090d8e\"><strong>For 2026, anyway<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had a very pleasant &#8220;chore day&#8221; (5K service for <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#c10707\" class=\"has-inline-color\">The Monster<\/mark><\/strong>, LOTS of laundry, scrubbed the floor in <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#a1bcf7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Lizzy<\/mark><\/em><\/strong>, and started planning our last 2026 trip (<strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#09b0a5\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Hawai&#8217;i!<\/mark><\/strong>)  Yesterday, we drove to Nancy, Kentucky for a&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Visit to <mark style=\"font-weight: bold; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: rgb(29, 106, 6);\" class=\"has-inline-color\">1<\/mark> new <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">National Park Site<\/mark>:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument<\/strong><\/mark> (#321), where the US won a significant victory early in the Civil War, in the rolling fields of Kentucky. On January 19, 1862, through foggy and mired conditions, federals under&nbsp;Brigadier General George H. Thomas&nbsp;defeated&nbsp;Brigadier General George B. Crittenden&#8217;s attacking confederate forces. The battle resulted in the US&#8217;s first major victory in the Western Theater of the American Civil War and the death of Confederate&nbsp;General Felix K. Zollicoffer, a &#8220;fan favorite&#8221;, and who probably should actually take the blame for the loss.  <br><br>We watched the movie, checked out the museum, drove the tour road to where the Confederates retreated accross the Cumberland River, took one of the best Battlefield Ranger Walks we&#8217;ve ever taken (90 minutes), and hiked around the extent of the primary battelfield. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although this is our last stop <strong>camping<\/strong> in Kentucky (for 2026), it&#8217;s not our last visit.  Our next 2 camp sites (in Tennessee and Virginia) are in <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>National Park Sites<\/strong><\/mark> which include segments in Kentucky (<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Big South Fork National River &amp; Recreation Area<\/strong><\/mark> and <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Cumberland Gap&nbsp;National Historical Park<\/strong><\/mark>).
