{"id":7854,"date":"2023-04-18T06:29:04","date_gmt":"2023-04-18T13:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=7854"},"modified":"2024-02-09T18:30:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T02:30:40","slug":"on-to-the-midwest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=7854","title":{"rendered":"On to the Midwest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#090d8e\"><strong><strong>Three stops <strong>in a week<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>&#8230;<strong><strong>Missouri-Kansas-Missouri<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We moved Northeast from central Oklahoma to central Missouri over the last week, taking a bit of a Zig-Zag route (including <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"35\" height=\"26\" class=\"wp-image-7900\" style=\"width: 35px;\" src=\"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Route-66.jpg\" alt=\"\">), with 3 stops:  <strong>Joplin, MO<\/strong> for 2 nights, <strong>Lawrence, KS<\/strong> (between Topeka &amp; Kansas City) for 3 nights, and <strong>Columbia, MO<\/strong> (north of Jefferson City) for 2 nights.  All places we&#8217;ve never been before&#8230;new states to camp in, <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#090d8e\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Missouri<\/mark><\/strong> (#27), <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#090d8e\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Kansas<\/mark><\/strong> (#28)&#8230;and we squeezed in a lot of touring:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">3<\/mark><\/strong> new <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">National Park Sites<\/mark><\/strong>:    <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">George Washington Carver National Monument<\/mark><\/strong> (#197), south of Joplin, where the young child known as the &#8220;Plant Doctor&#8221; tended his secret garden while observing the day-to-day operations of a 19th century farm. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/articles\/000\/plan-like-a-park-ranger-top-10-tips-for-visiting-george-washington-carver-nm.htm\"><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Fort Scott National Historic Site<\/mark><\/strong> (#198), about halfway enroute to Lawrence, established in 1842 to keep settlers in Missouri out of Indian Territory and to keep Native Americans out of Missouri. The first tour was up into the dome&#8230;the tallest in the country you can climb&#8230;and it was 296 steps!!!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#046969\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City<\/mark><\/strong> (#18), from Columbia, where we took the tour with a smaller passel of 4th-8th
