First stop: Richmond, Maine on the Cobbosseecontee Stream, 4 nights <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Maine is #31 State Camping in Lizzy. We spent our first day visiting Augusta, 15 miles north…Maine State Capitol Tour<\/mark><\/strong> (#27), First Amendment Museum<\/mark><\/strong>, lunch in Historic Augusta, a short walk along the Kennebec River and a walk in Capitol Park<\/mark><\/strong>. Unfortunately, Fort Western was closed, and we didn’t make it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then 2 days in Bath, ME, 30 miles south, also on the Kennebec River, visiting the Maine Maritime Museum<\/strong><\/mark>. It wasn’t even on our “list” till we got to Richmond! Great museum, and admission is for 2 days. We decided in the first 30 minutes, day 1, that we would return the next day. In addition to learning new things about wooden ship building in the early 1900s (like how they launched a ship…fascinating) and simply how much<\/strong> ship-building was\/is done in Bath, we took a one hour tour on the Kennebec River. Downriver, we saw Doubling Point Lighthouse<\/mark><\/strong>, Fiddlers Reach Fog Signal<\/mark><\/strong>, and Doubling Point Range Light<\/mark><\/strong> and upriver we saw Bath Iron Works<\/mark><\/strong> (a General Dynamics company building Navy Ships)…Bath Built, Best Built!<\/strong><\/mark> We also saw bald eagles, cormorants, a harbor seal, and a jumping sturgeon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
