{"id":9543,"date":"2023-11-10T07:24:30","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T15:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=9543"},"modified":"2024-02-09T19:20:29","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T03:20:29","slug":"south-carolina-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streaming2nps.com\/?p=9543","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#090d8e\"><strong>Two Short Stops <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After one last stop in North Carolina, enroute to Myrtle Beach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit to <mark style=\"font-weight: bold; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: rgb(29, 106, 6);\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>1<\/strong><\/mark> new <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\">National Park Site<\/mark><\/strong>:    <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#1d6a06\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Moores Creek National Battlefield<\/strong><\/mark> (#224), where, on February 27, 1776, Loyalist forces charged across Moores Creek Bridge and met nearly 1,000 North Carolina Patriots with cannons and muskets. This battle marked the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">last broadsword charge by Scottish Highlanders<\/span> and the first significant victory for the Patriots in the American Revolution. (<em>Is this where the saying &#8220;don&#8217;t bring a knife to a gun fight&#8221; came from???<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" Gail&#8217;s since 4th grade, whom she hasn&#8217;t seen in 11 years, and her husband Jeff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jeff-C, another RPI &#8217;71 classmate &amp; RSE fraternity friend of Mark&#8217;s, and his wife Maureen.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We each had some personal time with our respective friends, we had a dinner with each couple, our only touring around Myrtle Beach was with them, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and<\/span> they all came to our campsite to meet Lizzy!  Two days filled with visiting with old friends.  Very Nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Charleston for 3 nights, where we prepared Lizzy for storage, packed our bags to fly home for a month, and dealt with a refrigerator which stopped working 2 days ago. Looks like it won&#8217;t get fixed until we return. Thank goodness we had eaten down all the fresh food and frozen meat for storage anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can&#8217;t say we actually visited the South Carolina Coast much!   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#730202\"><strong>And now&#8230;going on Pause!<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Heading out to store Lizzy now, then off to the Charleston, SC Airport, to catch our non-stop Alaska flight to Seattle.  (That&#8217;s why we picked Charleston, from which to fly home.)  We&#8217;ll be home for a month.  Then we&#8217;ll be back here, on the road, December 11, continuing our journey south for the winter.
