National Park Day Trip Album at:

September 12-13, 2019

Overview

Short, overnight trip to visit Mount Rainier, our last National Park to visit together in Washington, and our 151st overall. We drove up to Mt. Rainier on Thursday, stayed at Paradise Lodge, and drove back Friday. We made it to 3 of the 4 Visitor Centers and took a number of short hikes. We skipped visiting Sunrise, due to time & weather.

Short Stop before Rainier

En-route to Mount Rainier, we stopped at Elbe, to check out the church & train.

Personal Trivia re: Mount Rainier

Although Mark had never been to Mount Rainier, Gail had visited several times in the late ’70s / early ’80s. She even attempted climbing it twice, back in the day, when we wore zinc oxide for sun screen.

That’s Gail on the left in 1981 (with David, her climbing partner in the early ’80s), on the climb to Camp Muir, 1st stop on their way to the top. He made it, with one of our party, while she and the other 2 turned around at Disappointment Cleaver.

First visit together, but there will be more!
