Short Stop in East Stroudsburg, PA
We had a Great Day with Jane, a High School friend of Mark’s who lives locally. She met us in camp and we took a day trip north to a 3 sites along the Delaware River and had a nice lunch in Milford (and it only hit the mid-80’s, partly sunny)!
1 new National Park Site, 1 Revisit and a National Historic Site:
- Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (#16-Revisit), where we drove north on 209 through the National Recreation Area, stopped at Dingman Falls Visitor Center and took the short walk to Dingman Falls.
- Grey Towers National Historic Site, home of Gifford Pinchot, the “Father of Forestry”, first chief of the US Forest Service, an important figure in the American Conservation Movement. He led the US Forest Service for “The greatest good for the greatest number of people in the long run”.
- Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River (#249), for short visits to the the Zane Grey Museum, the Roebling’s Delaware Aqueduct and the Roebling Bridge Tollhouse.
WHO KNEW?!? The Aqueduct is the oldest wire cable suspension bridge in the United States. It was built as an aqueduct to carry boats across the Delaware River for the Delaware and Hudson Canal. We drove across the Delaware River on the one-lane bridge (PA to NY and back) that used to carry water and boats, and walked across the Delaware River on pedestrian walkways (NY to PA and back) that used to be the Tow-Paths for the mules pulling barges.
Off for the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York!

I am beginning to wonder if there is ANYWHERE in this world you have NOT been!
