Wrapping up our Alaska Land Tour
Over the last 3 days we drove back through Anchorage to Seward (with stops), took an 8.5-hour Cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park, drove back to Anchorage (with stops), said Goodbye to 9 of 25 of our group, and flew to Juneau with the other 14.
Talkeetna through Anchorage to Seward on Wednesday
In the morning, we traveled back to Anchorage, stopping at the Iditarod Trail Headquarters enroute. There, visit the Anchorage Museum, had lunch at Simon & Seafort’s Saloon & Grill, and paid a short, shopping visit to the Alaska NP Headquarters. In the afternoon, we continued our journey south down the Seward Highway along spectacular Turnagain Arm, and checked into the Harbor 360 Hotel for two nights on Resurrection Bay.
AMAZING Visit to 1 new National Park Site on Thursday:

Kenai Fjords National Park (#304), At the edge of the Kenai Peninsula lies a land where the ice age lingers. Nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords’ crowning feature. It is the largest ice field entirely within the United States, covering approximately 700 square miles. Wildlife thrives in icy waters and lush forests along the fjords once carved by the vast expanse of ice. Today, shrinking glaciers bear witness to the effects of our changing climate.
Our visit to Kenai Fjords surpassed our day going to the Arctic, with an 8.5-hour cruise National Park, visit several glaciers, saw one calving, and spotted incredible marine wildlife, including our first Orca Whales, some Puffins, Stellar Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, Sea Otters, and Humpback Whales feeding.
Seward to Anchorage
This morning, we visited the Alaska SeaLife Center and had lunch in Seward, with a little time to wander around town. Back on the road north to Anchorage, we stopped to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Girdwood. Then on along the Turnagain Arm to the Anchorage Airpiort, where we said Goodbye to 9 of 25 of our group, and flew to Juneau with the other 14. And thus ended the Land Tour portion of our trip
Yesterday in Juneau, today on our 1 week cruise!
Posting this from Glacier Bay Lodge, where we are visiting for just a bit, after a full day of cruising in Glacier Bay. We passed into it around midnight last night. More next post.
