On the southern shore of Lake Michigan

Where we spent one day back in Illinois (Chicago), one day in Michigan (with “Gail’s Charlie”, Charlie-W, her baby brother, who lives ~30 minutes up the eastern shore of Lake Michigan), and one day hanging out/visiting around Beverly Shores, Indiana, where we were camped at Dunewood Campground. This is the 1st National Park Campground to which we’ve made a repeat visit. And Charlie visited us here again, upon our arrival. We actually pitched our screen tent, for hors d’oeuvres outside, protected from those Indiana bugs.
Chicago Day

We spent a better part of that day going to our last MLB game of the season, but starting and ending with 2 very brief stops to “officially” visit 2 NPS sites. The latter led us to Bronzezille on the southside, so we also checked out the Monument to the Great Northern Migration.
Visit to 1 new National Park Site & 1 repeat (briefly):
- Pullman National Historical Park (#123-Revisit), a planned industrial community famed for its urban design and architecture. We had visited in 2018, shortly after it opened. Since then, the Visitor Center has moved into one of the restored buildings and there appear to be more/beter exhibits there. Unfortunately, we had limited time, and mostly came for our stamp and brochure for…
- Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument-Illinois Unit (#309), whose primary location is in Mississippi, where, in 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till traveled to visit relatives. He was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered after reportedly whistling at a white woman. The Chicago Unit, is/will be centered around the church where his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, insisted on an open-casket funeral near their hometown. Her brave decision let the world see the racist violence inflicted upon her son and set the Civil Rights Movement into motion. After the baseball game we stopped by the church, which is being restored.

Attended a game at 1 new MLB Ballpark
- Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox at Rate Field (#21)
Another beautiful afternoon game, this time we were sitting in the sun. Some of our best seats in a while…just a few rows back from home plate. But we saw why the While Sox have such a bad record…no hussle, for one. We actually saw the Orioles succeed in a double steal! Final Score: 3-1 Orioles
Michigan Day

We spent the day with Charlie, mostly around his home in Three Oaks, MI. We had brunch, walked around town, hung out and played cribbage, went shopping for peaches at a local farm market, and ended the day at a friends house, for a nice visit and dinner cooked by Charlie.
Indiana Day…Revisit 1 National Park Site and Beverly Shores:
- Indiana Dunes National Park (#50-3rd Revisit), where we camped for 4 nights, and finally spent time yesteray afternoon walking/hiking ~ 5 miles around Beverly Shores, in and out of the park (Beverly Shores is a small town surrounded by Indiana Dunes NP). We hiked the Great Marsh Trail and the Dune Ridge Trail, stopped by Lake View Beach and Kemil Beach, and revisited the Century of Progress Historic District, this time on foot.
Off for Ohio!
