A week in the Colorado Rockies & Front Range!

We stayed on the Big Thompson River (cover photo of the river right behind our campsite), just west of Loveland, 25 miles from Estes Park. We drove up Big Thompson River Canyon 3 days to explore Rocky Mountain National Park (#177…1st new National Park in over 2 years). It was AWESOME! We understand why it’s such a popular park. We enjoyed driving the Trail Ridge Road, highest continuously paved road in North America. Driving above the tree line in Alpine Tundra was fascinating. We drove about every road we could; took a lot of little hikes (incl in the rain/hail), around lakes, to waterfalls, etc.; listened to a few Ranger Talks; visited all 4 Visitor Centers and the Discovery Center; and saw lots of animals (see below).

We also went into Denver one day, visiting the Colorado State Capitol (#12) and seeing a Colorado Rockies Game at Coors Field (#11). Gail got time to visit with old (and brandy new) friends in the area, and we had time just hanging on the Big Thompson River.

And for Kids Korner Fans, we’re still adding animals from this trip, such as another Yellow-bellied Marmots (real close), our 1st Moose, lots of Elk, and Bighorn Sheep.
