Camping on a lake in Ypsilanti

First camping with Lizzy in Michigan (State #39), with more Michigan visits coming up in August! We picked Ypsilanti, as it was between Lansing and Dearborn & Detroit, the 3 places we visited. And there was Truck Maintenance in the Motor City area, finally replacing the bad tire and getting The Beast’s 110K mile service.
No, we didn’t swim in the lake

As for our 3 days of touring…

Toured 1 new State Capitol:
  • Michigan State Capitol in Lansing (#36), where we had an informative tour and learned how the Upper Peninsula became part of Michigan and why there is such an Ohio / Michigan rivalry. It is NOT all about football!
Attended a game at 1 new MLB Ballpark
  • Cleveland Guardians @ Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park (#14)
Afternoon game, hot when the sun was out, but that wasn’t much. And we were prepared for the few minutes of rain, having recently been on the Maid of the Mist! Final Score: 5-0 Guardians
Visit to the Henry Ford Museum,

We could have used at least 3 days here. But from 10:30 to 5:00 on one day …

  • We both went on the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, where they build F150s WOW! Didn’t get back to the main site until almost 2:00, with 3 hours left.
  • Mark spent his 3 hours at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, where he thinks he saw maybe 20%.
  • Gail spent her 3 hours at Greenfield Village, much expanded since she visited it in 1982 (Society of Women Engineers Convention in Detroit). For example, the house and barn from the farm on which Firestone grew up in Ohio was moved here in the mid-80’s.
On our way across the lower peninsula to Muskegon!

Well you happy travelers, Bill and I stayed in Dearborn couple nights. reall enjoyed the museum. Saw the Worcester Diner and brought back memories to his aunt as she and her husband owned the Diner in Shrewsbury for years. We were on our way back from South Bend and visiting Notre Dame for the weekend one Fall.
