And YES…it DID SNOW…twice!
We had a little snow on Monday in Tombstone, and on the drive back to Bisbee, and on Lizzy upon our return. Just a little, but enough that Mark “should have” shoveled the steps…they were ICY in the morning.
But the snow we woke up to this morning really confirms our official 1st time time Camping in Snow! SO…will we be able to take off for Willcox today?!?!? Looking good…it was 28o at 7:30, and it’s 34o now at 9:45, with a couple of hours before we need to be off (it is snowing just a bit right now, but the roads look clear.)
View from & tidbits about Bisbee Queen Mine RV Park:
- The campground/big round parking lot was the Bisbee High School Baseball Field, built by the Bisbee Queen Mine for the community, before the Lavender Pit Mine was started.
- When repairing the underground pipes, they found large deposits of turquoise.
Last 4 days in Bisbee
Saturday we went to Sierra Vista to visit the Fort Huachuca Museum and the Military Intelligence Museum. Fascinating. They’re both on the Fort Huachuca Army Installation. It’s beautiful there in the mountains. We had to go through Army Security to get a guest pass to get on base!
Sunday we spent a few hours wandering around Old Bisbee, having coffee, window shopping, actually buying Killer Bee Honey and pastries, and walking up to the Muheim Heritage House Museum, which was closed. Then back to Lizzy for our 2-person Superbowl Party (i.e. excuse to have loaded nachos for dinner).
Monday was Visit Tombstone Day! We got there about noon and spent the early afternoon seeing just about everything at the OK Corral:
- Shootout at the OK Corral Re-enactment (Gail got her picture taken with
Doc Holiday & the Earp Brothers, and with the bad-guy Cowboys!)
- Tombstone’s Historama, made in 1965? and narrated by Vincent Price
- O.K. Corral Historic Complex Exhibits
- The Tombstone Epitaph Newspaper Museum
Then we did a little more walking around and visited the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park. We had dinner at the Crystal Palace Saloon, one of Tombstone’s earliest saloons, and the 2nd floor once had offices for such notables as U.S. Deputy Marshal Virgil Earp.
Yesterday/last day, we were SUPPOSED to take the J.A. Jance/Sheriff Joanna Brady Lavender Jeep Tour…but it was canceled…TOO COLD, especially with the wind chill factor, for an open air jeep tour! Oh Well. Not the only thing on the Do-Next-Time-We-Visit-Bisbee list. Gave us time to catch up on some things, like organizing pictures.
HOPEFULLY, we’ll be off for Willcox today…last stop in Arizona.
