Made it to Amish Country…3rd stop in Pennsylvania!

We spent another week around Donora, PA, mostly visiting Mark’s family. Then we spent 4 nights/3 days in Gettysburg. There we spent a day in Harrisburg and 2 days in Gettysburg. Some fun included:

Spending Joy’s Birthday in Pittsburgh!
Spontaneous! Walk across the Susquehanna/AA Baseball Game!
Touring 1 new State Capitol:
  • Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg (#22), where we got on the 1:30 tour. After that, we visited Soldiers Grove, the Pennsylvania Medal of Honor Memorial.
Visiting 1 new National Park Site and 1 revisit:
  • Eisenhower National Historic Site (#204), which preserves the farm of 5 Star General and 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The only home Eisenhower ever owned, it served the president and first lady as a weekend retreat and as a meeting place for world leaders. On one of our Ranger Tours, we heard how Eisenhower used his Grandkids to help in efforts to reduce Cold War tensions, with Nikita Khrushchev. Really.
  • Gettysburg National Military Park (#13-Revisit), where we visited the newish Visitor Center (2008) and refurbished Cyclorama, missed when we were here for the Sesquicentennial in 2013, and stopped by a few of our favorite spots (except Little Round Top, closed for a Rehabilitation Project).
Now in New Holland, PA for 4 nights

Will visit another new National Park, and visit Gail’s cousin Lee Ann and help her celebrate her birthday!
