Lizzy Adventure Album at:

September 22-October 3, 2021

Overview

Eleven day Lizzy trip back to the NW coast, hanging out 4 days at the cutest KOA on Willapa Bay and then a week back at Fort Stevens State Park, near Astoria, OR at the mouth of the Columbia. A short get-away before we winterize Lizzy, and hang out at home for the next few months. While at Fort Stevens State Park, we re-visited the Wreck of the Peter Iredale several times. This picture, at Dusk, was our favorite.

While it was our 4th time camping near Astoria, OR, (hence the “Reprise”), it was our first time camping on Willapa Bay, the second-largest estuary on the United States Pacific coast. It is fairly shallow: more than half of its surface area lies in the intertidal zone, and half of the volume of water inside it enters and leaves with every tide.  And, approximately 9% of all oysters in the U.S. are grown there!

We hung out, went on walks/hikes and visited:

  • Pacific County Courthouse in South Bend, WA
  • Northwest Carriage Museum, quite a find in Raymond, WA
  • Short visit to Willapa Seaport Museum in Raymond, WA
  • Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, OR
  • Cranberry Museum in Long Beach, WA
