We’ve now slept in 48 States, and Camped in 30!
While we have visited Rhode Island together a number of times, it was always a day trip from Massachusetts (like our Visit to Providence last month!) Now we have actually spent 5 nights here, camping in the very large Burlingame State Park Campground, on a Watchaug Pond (pretty darn big, looks more like a Lake to us). It’s just minutes from the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge and many beaches on Long Island Sound.
While here, we had a nice breakfast with Karen & Bob, old friends of Mark’s and a visit from Freddie, n “old” college friend of Gail’s. We explored nearby, checked out Weekapaug, where Mark and family spent many summer vacations in the 80’s/90’s, and finally visited Coggshall Farm in Bristol, a 1790-era living museum, affiliated with Old Sturbridge Village.
And…we ate 3 of our 4 main meals from different “Clam Shacks“!
Rhode Island Term?
The food is New England Seafood…clams, haddock, chowdah, lobstah, scallops, clam cakes…like from the Clam Box, near Gail’s hometown in Massachusetts or Sea View Snack Bar, where we recently ate dinner in Mystic, Connecticut. However, “Clam Shack” seems a name, unique to and ubiquitous around Rhode Island.
Synonymous with YUMM!!!

OH! I’d never been to Weekapaug before, but had been to nearby Misquamicut Beach.
