All around Katahdin

We spent 6 nights camping just 8 miles south of the Baxter State Park South Entrance. Baxter State Park, among many other things, is home to Katahdin and Mount Baxter, the end of the Appalachian Trail. The first day, we visited Katahdin Woods & Waters National Monument (#214) and the Patten Lumberman Museum (which houses Katahdin W&W Visitor Center).

The last four days, we visited Baxter State Park, enough times, we actually bought a Seasons Pass! We drove the entire gravel Tote Road in the park, doing the loop on day 3. We hiked every day, about 22 miles total, through mud, sometimes over split log paths; up (and down) rock slides, rock stairs, tree roots, etc. We even did 2 miles on the Appalachian Trail. AMAZING!!!

Yeah…they were tough. We fly home from Charleston, SC November 10 for a month. Have no plans yet for when we drive Lizzy back.
