Overview

First Lizzy Trip of “the season”…18 days, mostly meandering north up the Oregon Coast on 101. We started with 2 days “high-tailing it” south on I-5 to reach our southern-most stop at Cape Blanco. This is the farthest south we’ve ever camped on the Oregon Coast and the only campground new to us on this trip!

  • Albany, OR, just for a quick overnight, heading south
  • Cape Blanco State Park, spent a week in this beautiful park, a bit south of Bandon
  • South Beach State Park, another week spent just south of Newport and Yaquina Bay
  • Nehalem Bay State Park, a short, 3 day stop, near Manzanita, our favorite little Oregon seaside town

Highlights

We had no particular plans, other than to have a relaxing trip, with a little exploring, some hiking, and a lot of beach walking. We visited some of the towns near where we were camping: Port Orford (Battle Rock Park), Coos Bay, Old Town Bandon, Newport Historic Bayfront, and Manzanita and supported a few restaurants. We walked/hiked ~70 miles, (capping it off with 9 miles at Nehalem Bay on the last day!) We visited 7 Lighthouse, 1 Aquarium, and did most of that walking/hiking in 10 different parks:

Lighthouses

  • Cape Blanco Lighthouse
  • Cape Arago Lighthouse
  • Coquille River Lighthouse
  • Umqua River Lighthouse
  • Haceta Head Lighthouse
  • Yaquina Head Lighthouse
  • Yaquina Bay Lighthouse

Aquarium

  • Oregon Coast Aquarium

Parks & Hikes

  • Cape Blanco State Park
  • Port Orford Head State Park
  • Humbug Mountain State Park
  • Bullards Beach State Park
  • Umqua River State Park
  • Haceta Head State Park
