Overview

Lizzy Route around Oregon

Three week Airstream Trip in Central Oregon. We actually got a 5 night reservation to camp at Crater Lake National Park in late August, and scheduled the rest of the trip around that, including camping with Friends, twice!

  • Cascade Locks, OR on the Columbia River
  • Fossil, Oregon in the high desert
  • Culver, Oregon
  • Manzanita Lake Campground at Crater Lake National Park
  • Salem, Oregon for some sales tax free shopping

Highlights

We did a lot of touring around Cascade Locks on the Columbia Gorge, and camped a couple of days with Gail’s friends, Gaye-T & Sandra-S. In fact, Sandra was our first overnight guest in Lizzy. Touring, much with Gaye & Sandra, included:

Visited & Hiked

  • Mount Hood & Timberline Lodge
  • Viento State Park
  • Starvation Creek State Park
    • Horsetail Falls
    • Cabin Creek Falls
    • Hole in the Wall Falls
  • Beacon Rock
  • Historic Route 30, including
    • Vista House @ Crown Point
    • Multnomah Falls

Other

  • Bridge of the Gods (where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the Columbia)
  • Bridgeside Restaurant twice! (Sandra’s ex-inlaws owned it!
  • Columbia Gorge Interpretive Museum
  • Bonneville Locks & Dam & Hatchery
  • Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum.

The stay at Fossil, was all about visiting all 3 units of the John Day Fossil Beds NM, but driving around was awesome, too, and we discovered the Fossil Museum. We stopped a couple of nights at Culver, OR, where we hiked and hung out Palisades Cove State Park. That was part way to Crater Lake NP. More camping with friends, as Michael-D & Kathy joined us there for 2 days. We got in a lot of Hiking the whole trip (except our last stop, in Salem, OR, where we took a day to buy new phones).

We visited 2 National Park Sites, our 2nd & 3rd of 4 Oregon NPs:

Oh…and note, we’ve now boated on our 3rd of the 5 Deepest US Lakes in the US…Crater Lake, the Deepest, at 1,949 feet.
