Overview
The second leg of Life with Lizzy 2020, was around Southern Arizona. We entered Arizona along I-8, coming from San Diego (end of the SoCal Coast Adventure) and stayed at 4 locations (of 6 originally planned stops):
- Gila Bend, short stop where we 1st heard about the Ancient Sonoran Desert People
- Twin Peaks Campground at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument– AMAZING!
- Tucson, with time for family visiting
- Apache Junction, east of Mesa & Phoenix, near the Superstition Mountains
Highlights
In Tucson, we spent time with Cousin Jeanne and Paul and picked fresh lemons & grapefruit from trees in the Campground. There, and elsewhere in southern Arizona, we visited:
- Mission San Xavier
- Kitt National Observatory
- State Capitol Tour (#10) – Phoenix, Arizona
And visited 5 National Park Sites:
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (#173)
Saguaro National Park (#56-Revisit)
Tumac’acori National Historic Park (#174)
Ancient Sonoran Desert People National Parks (2 Sites)- Casa Grande Ruins National Monument (#175 Together)
- Tonto National Monument (#176 Together)
The Covid-19 Pandemic caught up with us in Arizona in Mid-March. We aborted all follow-on trip plans, and ultimately drove home: Life-on-the-Road Aborted.
